The Société Anonyme des Automobiles Peugeot in Paris, France, is the second oldest active automobile company in the world (after Daimler-Benz).  Among the international automotive pioneers still operating, Peugeot is one of the few where the founder’s descendants are still shareholders and hold managerial positions. The Peugeot family had a manufacturing history dating back four generations before it became involved in automobile production in 1889.

The Peugeot model, Bébé, was first introduced in 1902 with an open body and single-cylinder engine.  In 1911, legendary designer and engineer Ettore Bugatti was hired to redesign the Bébé and in 1912 it reappeared with open and closed bodies and a 4-cylinder engine.  The Bébé radiator shell was not unlike the inverted horseshoe design which became the hallmark of Bugatti’s own marque.  Not a toy, the Bébé was designed as basic, low cost, around-town transportation.
